ARC REVIEW: The Perception by Adriana Locke

 photo Synopsis_zpspsdkas8l.jpg
There is no greater burden than a secret, and Kari Stanley has been carrying one alone for a long time. But fate intervenes in the form of a broken down car and the kind offer of assistance from a handsome stranger with a sweet, southern drawl. In exchange, all she has to do is go to dinner with him. Temptation was never so sweet.

Max Quinn has secrets of his own. His good deeds aren't just a product of his southern upbringing; they're his atonement. As one dinner turns into two, he realizes that Kari just might be his salvation.

As they struggle to find their path together, their secrets weigh heavier on them. Will they be able to trust one another with the truth, or will their secrets keep them apart forever?

CAUTION: Mild Spoiler Alert

You know that feeling when you just ended a book and you lay semi-limp, staring at your ceiling, and thinking, “Yep. Five stars.” I felt that way after reading this book. I cannot put it down and I even had to re-read some scenes because I just really loved them. It appears that Adriana Locke still has me wrapped around her perfect mix of dreamy yet realistic characters, and her easy-going yet emotionally stirring prose.

“I’m Max Quinn, the man that can service any and all of your needs.”

Maxwell Jacob Quinn was Mr. Right. He does right things, think the right things, and strives to be the right person for everything he does. He was a man of integrity, justice, and...dammit he’s sexy as hell. I need a Max Quinn in my life. Not just because he can burn the sheets making love to you but because of what he does before it, after it, and every bit of time where he’s present in your life. I loved how he gets el commando in the bedroom but unleash his soft side in little thoughtful things. Every detail about Max Quinn was made to be loved. Actually, it’s more of: every detail about Max Quinn will leave you no choice but to love him. No regrets here!

I had not promised him forever. Truth be told, I hadn’t guaranteed him tomorrow.

Kari Stanley was Miss What-If. A cloud of doubt had been swirling inside her head caused by a painful experience in her past. She refused to get too attached so it will be easier to let go. Even if she knew letting Max go was near impossible. Kari was a surprise for me. In the first book, she seemed to be happy and carefree, always brought sunshine everywhere she went. Little did I know that she lived in a dark cloud behind her sun. And the fact that she was able to hide that showed how strong she was as an individual. But of course, her strength did not encompass the ability to resist Max Quinn.

“Sweetheart, you and me—we’re permanent.”

Truth be told, I cannot single out scenes that “stood out” because each time I think of one, it’s followed by another, and then another, and at the end of the list I’ll just realize that I just summarized the full book. If you’re a keen reader, each scene is really a delight. The little gestures Max did for Kari, the specific details they knew about each other, and the sexy things they do together are actually the things that really got me into the book. Yes, I guess this is Adriana Locke’s forte, making every little thing and scene special. Her characters needn’t mind-blowing and extravagant scenes to stand out because their charm alone was so effortlessly gripping. With the amount of books that I’ve read, I am happy to note that the scenes weren’t clichéd. There were still moments and gestures that I found unique and refreshing, facts and responses that I wasn’t expecting. And as a reader, it’s important to me that there’s something new in something as predictable as romance. Five permanent stars from me!

   photo my review_zps0x5y6u94.jpg photo 45_zps1gzm61r5.jpg
I am addicted to the characters of this series! Miss Lori has successfully kept my interest up and alive with how she delivers each of the guys’ stories. Holding Strong unleashed the same amount of heat, action, suspense, and romance as the first book, No Limits. Just like Cannon, Denver was engrossing (so will the rest of the guys, I’m sure!). I spent a full day savoring all 475 pages of this awesome book!

...days after meeting her, he’d known sex wasn’t the only thing he wanted. He’d already begun to think of her as his, even though he hadn’t even kissed her yet.

Denver Lewis knew what a losing battle looked like. One look at Cherry Peyton and he knew this was a fight he was never going to win. Denver was all kinds of hot. Singling out his obvious hot bod, he unleashed all kinds of steam through his passion for fighting, his loyalty to the ones he loved, and his capability to love fiercely. His strength and his alpha-maleness oozed out of the pages and I couldn't help but love him. Especially when he unleashes caveman Denver!

But he wanted to hold her close and care for her, and for however long it took for her to get well, he wanted to be with her. With or without her looking her usual irresistible self. With or without sex.

Cherry Peyton was a strong, beautiful, and sweet woman. In No Limits , she unleashed her sweet charms and her darling smiles like it’s what she was made to do. Never did I even imagine that she had so many secrets and a very dark past. I admired her more when I learned about how she fought away from that nightmare and stood tall on her own. I loved the perfect mix of sexy, sass, strength and vulnerability in her character.

“It’s a lot to take in, I know, because I’ve been living with it since meeting you.”
“Living with...?”
“The overwhelming need to fuck you senseless, to make you come again and again until the only man you can see is me.”

The heat and chemistry between Denver and Cherry was instantaneous. It was well-established and I had no doubt that they were hot together. However, I just felt a little rushed at the beginning with how things went from carnal need to a deeper form of care and affection. For two people who held back lusting at each other, it was quite a quick shift from thoughts of once-upon-a-time to happily-ever-after. Nevertheless, I really loved Denver and Cherry together. And it’s not solely due to the sheet-burning sex but also because of the cute and sweet gestures they unconsciously did to each other. One more thing I loved is how Denver’s temper riled up and how Cherry seemed to be armed with the right words to say. Same with when Cherry felt doubtful and Denver knew exactly how to calm her down. I really dig that part about them.

Upon the establishment of Denver and Cherry’s feelings, the storyline started to get more gripping. The main conflict didn’t root from their relationship but from their pasts. It stirred my head for a while and has kept me flipping and flipping, hungry for the next bit of the story. The book was hard to put down! It was steamy, romantic, sweet, fun, action-filled, and entertaining! Lori Foster continues to enchant with her exhilarating writing prose and addictive and fun characters! She definitely knows how to make readers clamor for more. I can’t wait for the next books in this series! #ArmingforArmie

ARC REVIEW: The Bachelor's Baby (Montana Born Bachelor Auction #3) by Dani Collins

 photo Synopsis_zpspsdkas8l.jpg

Who could resist this tempting offer, but Meg Canon plans to do just that. She is only home to clean out her childhood bedroom for her brother’s new step-daughter and then she’s outta her childhood small town and back to her life in Chicago, but when she meets the sexy, renegade millionaire while she’s stuck in the snow, sparks fly and Meg is tempted to maybe stay a little longer.

Third book of the series and I must really say I’m hooked! The writers have successfully maintained the consistency of the characters and the aura of the series. I can’t get enough! The Bachelor’s Baby was a delightful read. Miss Dani delivered this familiar storyline with interesting characters and an entertaining prose.

Linc Brady was a millionaire with an attitude and has sworn off to commitment. But behind Linc’s rather intimidating personality was a generous man who feared loss. Having known loss at a very young age, he avoided commitment to prevent himself for experiencing the pain of being left. Linc had a bossy CEO attitude and at some point, I disliked him but as the story progressed, I saw how he started changing and completely loved him until the epilogue.

Meg Canon was a successful newscaster in search for her birth parents. She was determined to patch the missing part of herself and hopes to finally feel complete. Meg was a heart-warming character. Her story was touching and her personality was a contrast of success and loneliness. I loved her determination and her heart. There were times when I really felt for her, the heartbreak, the various kinds of rejection, and her loneliness. In the end, I completely adored her.

In all honesty, I didn’t feel the initial impact of the spark between Meg and Linc when they met. The chemistry was weak but the author managed to heighten the heat between them as the story progressed. Although the main plot of the story is no longer new, the author managed to deliver it with a breath of freshness that had me finishing it in one seating. I definitely enjoyed it! Can’t wait for the next installment of this series!

ARC REVIEW: Bachelor at her Bidding (Montana Born Bachelor Auction #2) by Kate Hardy

 photo Synopsis_zpspsdkas8l.jpg

How to win a girl in ten cakes…

When Dr. Rachel Cassidy comes back to Marietta with a broken heart and a divorce under her belt, going to a Bachelor Auction fund-raiser doesn’t sound like her idea of a good time – and when her sister and friends “buy” her a dinner date with sexy Parisian-trained pastry chefRyan Henderson, that sounds even worse.

Ryan doesn’t have time for dating – he’s put his dreams to one side and come back to Marietta to look after his sick grandmother. But when he agrees to help a charity fundraiser by offering to cook a special meal to one lucky bidder, he gets more than he bargains for and discovers a woman he might just dare to let himself fall in love with.

Then tragedy strikes, just when Rachel and Ryan think they might have a future, opening up old scars and pushing them apart.

And if they’re to stand a chance of getting back together, then Ryan’s going to have to be seriously inventive. Can he win the love of his life with ten cakes?

I thoroughly enjoyed this story. The characters were interesting, the shift of scenes was engrossing and the steam of romance simmered. This light and quick read was a delight.

Ryan was a chef who captured every person's heart in town with his "better than sex" food. He was a kind and thoughtful guy and taking care of his grandmother Phyllis was his lifetime (and only) commitment. But behind Ryan's good guy personality and dashing smile hid a man bruised by a past relationship. His character was a perfect mix of charm, heat, and sweetness. Much like those crème brule he so expertly makes.

Rachel was a divorced doctor determined to live her life without dating anyone. She was scarred enough by her past marriage to even take another swing at relationships. She was determined to live by just living her life as a doctor. Rachel was an interesting character. She was smart, strong, and compassionate. She was always ready to help people with her loving heart and her warm smile. What she wasn't ready for was falling in love again.

The connection Rachel and Ryan felt for each other was timid at first but raised to a passion that enflamed each scene. Kate Hardy has kept me flipping pages with her warm and affective writing prose and the giddy pull of the fun characters in the story. This light romance entertains from the start to the end. Perfect for a weekend read.

ARC REVIEW: Bound to the Bachelor (Montana Born Bachelor Auction #1) by Sarah Mayberry

   photo Synopsis_zpspsdkas8l.jpg
Your date with Marietta local Beau Bennett includes a day on the slopes at Big Sky Resort, complete with a sumptuous meal in the Resort’s fanciest fine dining restaurant and door-to-door transport. Dig deep to secure the attentions of one of Montana’s most eligible – and elusive – bachelors.

Lily Taylor knows Beau Bennett dislikes her, but that won’t stop her from asking him to volunteer for the Bachelor Auction she’s organized to help her friend Molly provide for her tragically injured son, Josh. If Beau’s gorgeous face, piercing blue eyes and chiseled body inspires the women of Marietta to dig into their pockets for a good cause, then Lily will do whatever it takes to secure his participation.

Beau Bennett isn’t sure how he wound up on the auction block being eyed up by hundreds of eager women, but he knows who to blame for it – Lily Taylor, the sexy, distracting, off-limits best friend of his kid sister. As far as he’s concerned, the sooner this nightmare is over, the better.

The last thing either of them expects is for Lily to wind up bidding on – and winning – Beau, or that their date will lead to Beau stepping in to save Lily when her past comes back to haunt her. As Beau does his best to keep Lily safe, they discover that maybe they don’t dislike each other quite as much as they thought.

In fact, maybe it’s just the opposite…

As the first book of a series, Bound to the Bachelor has definitely made me decide to look forward to the other books of this series. Although it’s a short read, I didn’t really feel like it was too quick or too short. The romance was instantaneous, with fun and interesting major characters that immediately sparked a great potential of romance at the beginning of the book. The progress of the story was well-built. There was a tinge of drama, conflict, and a really satisfying ending.

Beau Bennett was the town’s ex-Marine, tough-guy ladies’ man. Everything about Beau screamed MALE. He was hard-working, goal-oriented, and tough but behind his intimidating facade was a soft man who cared. I really enjoyed Beau’s character and loved him throughout the book. He’s perfect for Lily.

Lily Taylor was a really strong and admirable heroine. Despite her unsettled dark past and a town gossiping about her past job, she held her head high and graced upon them with a tough heart and a warm smile. I really admire Lily’s driven, honest, yet sweet personality. Her quick wit and unexpected replies really had me. And apparently, it had Beau too.

The heat that simmered between Lily and Beau really scorched when they finally acted on it. The love scenes were really hot! But despite the much defined heat and romance of this story, there was depth in the characters that had me teary at some point. It’s a quick read but it contained every necessary aspect of an affective romance story—awesome character chemistry, drama, fun, and even a tinge of suspense. I must say that this is my favourite book of the series so far (I read the first three books before making the reviews). I’m yet to be persuaded by the other books but I know for sure that Beau will have a special part in my heart.

Excerpt

“You. In.” She pointed to the room behind me, and I glanced over my shoulder.

“In there?” I smirked again, but her cheeks didn’t get any redder, to my astonishment. “Is now really the time?”

She pushed against my naked chest, her steely eyes fixed on my face the whole time, then slammed the door behind us with her foot.

“If you wanted some private time together, you just had to say so.” I joked, leaning back against the chair that was positioned in front of the mirror in my dressing room.

“You think this is funny?” Kate asked, her head tilted to the side.

“Actually … yeah.” I nodded and smiled again, not unkindly.

Kate looked down, and for one God-awful moment I thought she was going to cry.

Then, she did something better than crying. Holy mother of crap sticks, was this better than crying.

She raised her hands to the top of her black button-up shirt—and she undid the top button. Creamy, white skin is exposed, defined collarbones, teasing my eyes down to—

She undid another button. Holy fuck, what was Kate doing? Her cleavage heaved in front of me, and I got a hint, just a hint of her black lacy bra.

“It cannot be a coincidence that one man is shirtless in front of me six times in two weeks.”

            I grinned. She’d counted.

That totally means she’s into it.

Then she did something that completely surprised me. Hell, it shocked the living daylight out of me. In one fluid movement, she grabbed the sides of her shirt and pulled, popping open her entire top and then shrugging it over her shoulders so she stood there in the world’s hottest black, lacy bra, skin-tight black denim jeans and these shoes—how the hell did I not notice them before?—that were red, high, and sexy as sin.

            I swallowed. “So … this is a revenge …” Swallow, “… strip?”

“This is me, trying to do something to get you to pay attention and listen when I ask you to do something.” Kate’s voice was honey as it melted into me.

I raised my hand to the back of my neck and rubbed at the muscles there that had suddenly become tight with tension. “Oh, I’m paying attention, all right.” I widened my eyes. There was absolutely no doubt about that right now.

“Get back stage, Lee. Seriously. This is your last warning.”

I swallowed again, and felt the clamminess of perspiration beading my brow. Was it hot in here? It sure felt hot.

She stepped close to me, till her chest was almost touching my chest. Shit, she smelt like soap and hairspray and … apples. Delicious.

“I …” My gaze flicked to her lips, and I wondered if it would really be that bad if I kissed her. After all, that wouldn’t be promising her marriage, and maybe she’d be up for a casual thing. And her lips—they were so red, and plump, and—oh God, she just licked them with that sweet-as-hell little tongue, and—

The palm of her hand made contact with my face before I even registered her arm moving. Five elegant fingers stung my cheek and I jerked backward, clutching my face in pain. “What the hell?”

Kate walked over to where her shirt lay on the floor and picked it up, casually shrugging it on. She had the biggest shit-eating grin on her face, and I couldn’t help but give a little smile myself. I’d not seen her look so animated since she first boarded the bus.

“I told you it was your final warning,” she said, doing up her buttons, then turned to the door, wrenching it open and making a sweeping gesture with her arm, allowing me passage through. “Now, Mr Collins, if you please.”

“Thanks,” I mumbled, walking past her and out into the corridor. I passed Xander’s door, and a thought flashed through my mind. What if she stripped for all the guys to get them on stage? I couldn’t have her just—

“Lee?” The voice halted me in my tracks. I spun to face her.
She threw my black shirt at me. “Put some clothes on.”
