Only
daughter of the volatile President of the Black Shamrocks MC and long-suffering
sister to four overprotective brothers, Madelaine O'Brien has survived
circumstances that would have broken a lesser woman.
Mik 'Mad
Dog' Kennedy is her salvation, her reward for continuing to fight, and the
matching piece of her soul.
With her
life finally happy and on track, will the reappearance of the monster from her
past be the event that finally breaks her? Or will he be the catalyst she needs
to put it all behind her, once and for all?
They say
when life gives you lemons; make lemonade. What happens when life keeps sending
you demons who refuse to stay buried? Do you lie down and accept defeat or rise
to the seemingly unwinnable challenge, and start SEIZING CONTROL?

EXCERPT
“Take her for a ride, Angel.”
I straddle my bike; turn the key
in the ignition, kick up the stand and hit the starter button. She starts
straight away. Hearing Benji’s bike start as well makes my smile widen. He has
finally been converted back to the right side, if the whooping and hollering he
is doing is any indication. I rev my bike a couple of times before Brendan
moves into my eye line, surprising me. I'd totally forgotten about him.
“Brendan, borrow a helmet off
Dad’s bike and come for a ride,” I shout over the engines. I probably should
share my first ride with him, even though he doesn't appreciate Harley’s at
all. He looks at me in disbelief and shakes his head.
“No, I’ll pass. Are you sure you
can handle that bike? It’s pretty big for a girl,” he asks, disapproval
radiating from him.
Before I can answer him, Mik
interjects in a firm voice. “Of course she fucking can. As if I’d give her
something she couldn’t handle.”
He shakes his head at Brendan
with disgust and grabs a helmet off of Dad’s bike. He jogs towards me and
winks.
“If lover boy’s too scared to go
with you, I’ll go.”
I can hear Benji laughing like a
lunatic over the pulsing of the bikes. He loves it when anyone cuts Brendan
down publicly. Constantly needing to mediate between Brendan and Benji and
their mutual dislike is starting to wear thin.
"I'd prefer if you didn't,
Mik.” Brendan tells him in a clipped voice.
Brendan turns his attention to
me, effectively dismissing him.
“It's not appropriate, Lainey.”
“Is that fucking right, lover
boy?”
Mik shoots Brendan a poisonous
glare, causing Brendan to turn back to him. Why does Brendan have to do this
now? I swallow when Mik takes a menacing step closer to him.
“I'm Mad Dog to civvies like
you, I'll have you know. And she.” Mik points in my direction. “Is not Lainey
to anyone but me.”
It surprises me when Brendan
blanches in the face of Mik's open hostility and takes a step back. Mik
follows, obviously not finished telling him how it's going to be.
“I'll also have you know that if
I want to go for a ride with her, I fucking will. If any man here wants to go
for a ride with her and she wants to take them, then she will. You're her
boyfriend, unfortunately, not her fucking owner so fuck you and fuck your
inappropriate shit.”
I hold my breath, waiting for
Brendan to lose it but he doesn't. He turns without another word and walks
towards the doors.
“Fuck, Lainey, you sure can pick
‘em.” Mik tells me seriously as I'm looking around us to see how many people
were paying attention to the scene that just unfolded. Hopefully the sound of
our bikes drowned out most of the confrontation. Thankfully it seems as if only
Joel has overheard us since everyone else is either still fawning over Benji
and his bike or has disappeared back inside to the party. Joel shoots me a look
of pity which has me holding back tears.
“It certainly looks like it.” I
give him a shaky laugh and a shrug. I'm nearly over Brendan’s crap. There's
only so many times I can speak to him about his possessiveness before I just
have to give up. “He's not like that all the time.”
“I guess I'll have to take your
word for it, Angel.”
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Kylie
Hillman is an Australian author who was born and raised in Outback South
Australia. A love of reading as a young child developed into a love of creating
stories so she could always be found either scribbling away furiously in her
notebook or entranced by an open book.
Mum to two
gorgeous, talented children and wife to a Harley riding Aussie bloke, Kylie
spent her twenties reading multiple books from many different genres and
authors, and occasionally finding the time to write a story as inspiration hit.
A devastating diagnosis of severe Crohn's Disease at the age of twenty-four
brought her accounting career to a screeching halt and after recovering from
multiple surgeries, Kylie was left scrambling as to where her life was now
headed. She began writing again as a way to alleviate the monotony of life as a
stay-at-home mother to two school aged children and was finally driven to
publish her first novel after falling in love with her characters and wanting
to share them with others.
A
self-proclaimed Queen of Sarcasm and Innuendo, Kylie also enjoys drinking
copious amounts of tea, listening to 80's rock music and being taken for rides
on the back of her husband's Harley when the kids are at school. She is
determined to one day ride her own Harley and her biggest wish is to see a cure
developed for Crohn's Disease in her lifetime.
A lover of
dark romance featuring hot alphas, sassy heroines and real-life drama, Kylie's
first series is based around the Black Shamrocks Motorcycle Club and contains
everything she loves about the genre. Seizing Control: Black Shamrocks MC is
her debut novel and is part of a series of five books following the ups and
downs of the love lives of the members of the Club. The second book in the
series, Making Choices, will follow in early December 2015.
Kylie is
also working on a stand-alone dark MMA novel, which is expected to release in
February 2016.
